MUSAWO Foundation

MUSAWO Foundation

Healing Communities. One Family at a Time.

Musawo Foundation brings free healthcare, health education, and life-changing support to Uganda’s most underserved communities through medical camps, home patient visits, sensitization campaigns, and scholarships for students who have the potential but not the means.

Musawo Foundation carries forward work that began in 2018 under Allied Doctors and Friends of Africa (ADFA), a movement started by Dr. Mathias Ssenyondo, who believed that where you live should never determine whether you live.

For close to eight years, ADFA ran community outreaches, home visits, and health education programmes entirely on its own with no donor support, no foreign aid, and no outside funding. In that time, it built trust in communities that most health organisations had never reached.

Today, that work continues under the Musawo name with greater reach, stronger systems, and the same unshakeable commitment to community.

The name has changed. The mission has not.

What We Do

Musawo Foundation works across four areas:

Free Medical Camps & Community Outreach

We take healthcare to the people. Our medical camps bring doctors, nurses, and health workers directly into communities providing free consultations, screenings, testing, and treatment for those who cannot access or afford a clinic.

Free Home Patient Visits

Some patients cannot leave their homes because of age, disability, severe illness, or simply the cost of getting there. Musawo Foundation visits them where they are: in their homes, in their communities, at their most vulnerable. No one should suffer alone because they cannot afford to travel.

Health Education & Sensitization Campaigns

Many of Uganda’s most preventable health crises are rooted in a lack of information. Musawo Foundation runs regular sensitization campaigns on maternal health, child nutrition, hygiene, chronic disease management, and mental wellbeing equipping communities to protect themselves.

Scholarships for Students

The next generation of Ugandan health workers should not be stopped by poverty. Musawo Foundation sponsors promising students who cannot afford to continue their education giving them a path forward and giving Uganda more trained, compassionate health workers.

    How This Work Is Sustained

For close to eight years, Musawo Foundation operated without a single donation from outside. Not because the need was small but because Musawo Group, our social enterprise arm, was built specifically to fund this work.

Musawo Group, which includes Musawo Clinics and Musawo Training Center commits over 20% of its revenues to Musawo Foundation. Every patient treated at a Musawo Clinic, every student who trains at the Musawo Training Center, is also contributing to free community care.

We can still do it on our own and we do. But when outside support comes, it does not sustain us. It scales us. It opens doors we cannot open alone: more medical camps, more scholarships, more home visits, more lives reached.

This model is our answer to the sustainability question that every health organisation faces. Musawo Foundation is not dependent on foreign aid or donor goodwill. It is backed by businesses built for exactly this purpose.

    How You Can Help

Every contribution: large or small goes directly to community work. Here is how you can get involved:

    Sponsor a student

Cover tuition, living costs, or training fees. You will be matched with a student and receive regular updates on their progress.

    Cover a patient’s bill

Help a patient in the community who cannot afford medication, treatment, or a hospital bill. A small amount can change everything.

    Fund a medical camp

Support our next community outreach event. Your contribution pays for transport, supplies, medications, and the team on the ground.

    Support a sensitization campaign

Fund health education sessions in a community of your choice, on maternal health, childhood nutrition, chronic disease, or another priority area.

    General donation

Give to Musawo Foundation’s general fund. We will direct it where it is needed most.
