This report provides a detailed account of the medical camp conducted at Calvary Chapel. The purpose of the camp was to offer essential medical services to the surrounding community, collect client data for follow-up, and create awareness about the health services available at the facility.
2. Objectives
The medical camp set out to achieve the following objectives:
- Operate six service units: Dental, Eye, Counselling, Triage, Pharmacy, and Doctor’s Station.
- Record vital signs for all patients, including height and weight.
- Conduct laboratory investigations where necessary.
- Deploy a team comprising 14 medical personnel and 5 support staff.
- Sensitize community members within a 5 km radius of Calvary Chapel (approximately 1,000 people) about available medical services.
- Collect clients’ data for future follow-up.
3. Achievements
The medical camp successfully delivered on its planned objectives, achieving the following:
3.1 Service Delivery
All six medical units operated effectively, and a total of 183 clients were attended to.
- Triage Station:
Vital signs—including height and weight—were recorded for all clients. Client data required for follow-up was also collected. - Doctor’s Station:
Various medical conditions were managed. Hypertension was particularly common among elderly women. Other frequently encountered conditions included Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) and Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD). - Laboratory Station:
Laboratory tests were conducted efficiently whenever required. Special recognition is extended to Mr. Dhawi for his support. - Eye Station:
Operated smoothly. Clients who required spectacles received them free of charge, and other ophthalmic conditions were appropriately managed. - Dental Station:
Dental services were provided effectively, and all dental concerns presented were adequately managed. - Pharmacy Station:
Medications were dispensed, and clients received educational handouts outlining the medical services offered.
4. Challenges
Despite the successes, several challenges were encountered:
- Inadequate staffing, especially in the Triage and Pharmacy units.
- Dental equipment required off-site sterilization, causing delays.
- Limited equipment—particularly blood pressure machines—led to congestion at the triage station.
- Shortage of informational handouts at the pharmacy.
- Some clients visited multiple service stations unnecessarily, contributing to long queues.
- Disproportionate attendance, with many elderly women and very few men seeking services.
5. Evaluation
Overall, the medical camp was highly successful. The competence and dedication of the team facilitated the efficient management of a large number of clients. The Calvary Chapel leadership, particularly Pastor Kimuli, Mrs. Kimuli, and the entire church team, played a crucial role in maintaining order and supporting operations. The mobilization efforts were effective, resulting in a strong turnout.
6. Recommendations and Strategies for Future Camps
- Deploy at least two staff members in both the Triage and Pharmacy stations to minimize congestion.
- Carry sterilization equipment to the camp to avoid delays at the Dental station.
- Increase the supply of essential tools, such as blood pressure machines, to prevent bottlenecks.
- Print an adequate number of informational handouts for client education.
- Ensure follow-up is conducted for all clients attended to during the camp.
7. Conclusion
The medical camp was executed successfully, fulfilling its primary objectives and providing valuable medical services to the community. Appreciation is extended to all medical personnel, support staff, and the Calvary Chapel team for their dedication and cooperation, which ensured the smooth running of the camp.
